Title: Sr. Systems Engineer

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of VMware vSphere technologies
  • Solid experience with VMware vCenter configuration, upgrade, and administrationWorking knowledge of VMware related activities including cloning, snapshots, and VMotion.
  • Strong platform knowledge in Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop;
  • Strong knowledge of storage technologies and how they interface with physical and virtual environments
  • Experienced in coordinating multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Experience in allocating work assignments, overseeing troubleshooting efforts, and managing tickets queues between finite engineering resources.
  • Ability to work under the direction of Senior Management. Serves as an advocate for communicating objectives and goals to the Operations Engineering team. Functions as an extension of the Operations Manager.
  • Comprehensive and working understanding of Microsoft desktop and server operating systems (Windows 2008)
  • Keen understanding of MS Active Directory, Domain Controller functionality, file backup systems, and government security practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communications skills; capable of interfacing with all levels of management, project managers, development engineers, Helpdesk team, and other technical and administrative departments.
  • Ability to solve complex systems problems quickly with little technical guidance, and develop automated corrective measures.
  • Understanding of IP based platforms and addressing, DHCP, DNS, Cisco products and technology, client/server computing.
  • Understanding of MS SMS, NMS, and PKISkilled in trending chronic problems, engaging in capability planning, analyzing security events, as well as preparing the corresponding documentation.


Required Background

  • 5-8 years' performing in a Systems Engineering or Systems Administrative role.
  • 4-6 years' working in a MS Windows environment.
  • 2-3 years' performing in a Senior Systems Engineering role.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience a plus.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 



    • Functions as a Subject Matter Expert for Windows Operating Systems and VMware in a server-based environment.
    • Responsible for day to day management of VMware ESXi farms, including provisioning, patch management and issue resolution.
    • Leads/implements complex hardware deployments, software upgrades, and significant projects.
    • Performs Tier III problem management, isolation, and resolution.
    • Keeps management informed of any major issues, project status, and day to day activities occurring inside the environment.
    • Ensures cycle reports, status documents, and ad hoc items are provided to m management on time and in a complete/accurate manner.
    • Functions as a representative for all levels of operational, customer, and corporate management in communicating objectives, goals, as well as the IntelliDyne/Department mission to the operations team.
    • Serve as a mentor to mid-level and junior engineers.
    • Addresses and rectifies Operating Systems problems, works with Microsoft or other vendors as necessary.
    • Coordinates with Project Engineering, Project Management, Security, and Asset Management, Customer Service, and Helpdesk teams as necessary for problem support and project management.
    • Monitors faults, performance, and capacity issues; prepares remediation reports and documentation.
    • Reviews and analyzes daily reports and prepares periodic reports for network status and baseline performance; researches, identifies, and analyzes trends of utilization and errors, uses Remedy to document trouble tickets and keep track of issues and resolutions, establishes/recommends resolution strategies accordance with fault, performance, or capacity-related items.
    • Provides 24 x 7 support for MS Windows servers and environment, participates in rotating “on-call” schedule, and participates in monthly weekend downtime effort.
    • In certain situations, may be required to function as a technical lead or supervises system engineers or others of equivalent or lesser seniority.
    • Evaluates analytically and systematically issues of workflows and organization. Develops plans for appropriate corrective action.
    • Ensures corresponding documentation is accurate and maintained.
    • Conducts gap analyses as needed, and provides results and recommendations to management for review.
