Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 5 - 7 years of experience, or a Master's and 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience advanced configuring and fine tuning of Infrastructure hardware:
    • Wireless LAN Controllers – Cisco 5508
    • Wireless Access Points - Cisco Aironet 3702i
    • Access Switches – Cisco 4507R and 3850
    • Distribution Switches – Cisco Catalyst 6506
    • Core Switches - Cisco Catalyst 6506
  • Experience working with client (Wireless consuming) hardware devices:
    • HP EliteBook 840 G2/G3
    • Surface Pro 4
    • iPhone 6s/ 6s+
    • iPad Air

Responsibilities

Sr. LAN/Network Engineer

 

Description:

Seeking temp-to-perm candidate with Cisco networking and Cisco Wireless experience for a project primarily based in Washington DC with the DOJ.  The WLAN Project covers the deployment and support of the wireless access within the client offices (DC and Regional Offices).  The WLANs will allow direct network access to the Client Network and guest access to the Internet.  The WLANs will be deployed to all Offices in Washington DC, San Franciso, CA, New York City, NY and Chicago, IL.  Full wireless gain testing (to ensure wireless coverage), entire system fine tuning, and complete documentation development are in-scope of the project.  The project has been started but a few steps still remain before completion:

  1. Firmware Upgrade
    1. Site 1 - Perform firmware upgrade on Cisco WLC 5508 from v8.0.133 to v8.3.112
    2. Site 2 - Perform firmware upgrade on Cisco WLC 5508 from v8.0.133 to v8.3.112
  2. Roaming and Connectivity Issues
    1. While walking throughout parts of offices, Wireless devices will disconnect and attempt to re-authenticate, which results in six to ten pings lost during the transition.
    2. HP EliteBook 840 G3 laptops cannot reach the Radius server.
  3. Documentation
    1. System Transition Document
    2. System Design Document
  4. GFE endpoint Support
    1. iOS endpoints (iPhone and iPAD) – Solution is implemented, need to be tested before it can be made available to users.
  5. Management Server
    1. Review the following to ensure best practices are followed and recommend/ implement actions if needed:
      1. Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) virtual appliance
      2. Cisco Mobility Services Engine (MSE) virtual appliance
      3. Cisco Prime virtual appliance

Essential Job Duties:

  • Designs and plans network communications systems.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Conducts testing of network design.
  • Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
  • Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network.
  • Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • May be assigned responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, including associated staff.
  • Trains and mentors other engineers.
