  • Minimum 6 years Linux system administration
  • Experience working with physical and virtualization, VMware platform
  • Does not require training nor guidance and able to speed up as self-starter
  • Must be able to troubleshoot day to day operations, performing monitor and tuning system performance, and providing administration, configuration, installation, deployment and maintenance.
  • Must be able to work on-call as specific and weekends
  • Experience with: server built\upgrade, databases, SANs, file permissions, and basic networking skills such as switching, routing, IP addressing, etc.
  • Must be able to obtain & maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • 8570 Compliance IAT Level II or higher (Security+, SSCP, or CCNA-Security active certification required)
  • Experience with DISA STIGs, ATOs, and CCRIs
  • Shell scripting, networking, TCP/IP, sendmail, Jboss Application server, Subversion, Firewalls, SFTP, networking protocols, server monitoring, netbackup administration, SAN experience, hardware/software troubleshooting, IDRAC/ILO experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field desired
  • Experience working within a process improvement environment such as CMMI desired
  • Experience with best practice methodologies such as ITIL desired
  • Strong organizational, good prioritizing, and time management skills
  • Customer focused with dedication to customer satisfaction
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Team-oriented and able to operate with minimal supervision 

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day SME level operational support including responding to incidents, troubleshooting, giving suggestions, and executing corrective action.
  • Support for server build configuration, design and testing
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a project-based team environment
  • Install new and rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, and other similar related items, in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards, Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.

Overview

This position will support, monitor and maintain an IT infrastructure consisting of Linux and Windows platforms.

 

Job duties include supporting over 15 production servers and 100 client computers in a LAN/WAN environment. You will be a member of a Network Operations team of system and network administrator, and enterprise Subject Matter Experts located in the Washington, DC metro area. You will be expected to share time with the other System Administrators in providing on-call 24x7 support and there will be some after hours and weekend responsibilities expected.

 

  • Perform application patches, updates and tech bulletins in the production environment
  • Assist System Engineers with related tasks as required
  • Assist Network Administrators to maintain the environment as required
